I am a grandmother paddling alone over 2,500 miles from Maine to Guatemala. Along the way I will be:
- telling the story of the children who live in the Guatemala City garbage dump community
- honoring their entrepreneurial mothers
- talking about the success of the Safe Passage model school and
- raising funds for additional grades for the school.

News Flash: I now have a paddling companion!

Paddling a pond so my companion can join me first on gentle water.
I am so excited that I now have a companion to join me during the entire expedition from Maine to Guatemala!  This pond of water lilies is the perfect place to start paddling together, as there are no scary waves or high winds to frighten my new companion.

The children at Safe Passage thought I needed someone to talk with during my year long expedition -   someone to keep me company and to share my adventures.  So they sending me one of their toys to be my companion and mascot.  Over 350 of the children joined in in selecting a name for my companion. Please meet...

Patito Amistoso

This friendly and studious little fellow will be a great traveling companion.  He is currently exploring the kayak to find the best places to enjoy the ride.  He is also looking for a cozy place to sleep at night.  I'll let you know what places he decides will be best.  Patito is asking if he can paddle beside me some of the time.  In the lily pond he can paddle.  In the ocean we will have to wait and see.

  1. I hope you will join us at Sebago Canoe and Kayak Club located in Jamaica Bay, Brooklyn NY. Most people don't think of kayaks when they think of NYC. But boat clubs and paddlers are active all year round. There are many places to dock in the Gateway National Recreational Area, Jamaica Bay and all around NYC. We can offer a safe place for the boat, rides, foods and interest as well as support for your journey.
