I am a grandmother paddling alone over 2,500 miles from Maine to Guatemala. Along the way I will be:
- telling the story of the children who live in the Guatemala City garbage dump community
- honoring their entrepreneurial mothers
- talking about the success of the Safe Passage model school and
- raising funds for additional grades for the school.

Read Joey Schott's Blog about Building the Kayak for the Expedition

Deb in the kayak Joey redesigned!
For those of you who are into the nitty gritty of boat building, check out Joey Schott's blog about all the design challenges in turning a sixteen year old Chesapeake Light Craft kayak I built (and almost completed) into my ideal expedition kayak.  He describes this as: "An ambitious project, perhaps the most challenging to date of my building career."

Another Expedition about to reach it's final goal!

Eric Larsen and Ryan Waters are skiing pulling their sleds, even swimming at times, for an unsupported expedition from Ellesmere Island to the North Pole.  You can follow the final push to the pole by the Last North Expedition at:
http://www.ericlarsenexplore.com/expedition/maps/current

They are using the Delorme inReach satellite communication system to automatically generate these maps.  We will do the same for the Kayak For Safe Passage Kids expedition.

The three paddles I tried today, as the dark weather rolls in.
First day with the new kayak on the water in Maine.  Great fun trying out three different paddles.
