I am a grandmother paddling alone over 2,500 miles from Maine to Guatemala. Along the way I will be:
- telling the story of the children who live in the Guatemala City garbage dump community
- honoring their entrepreneurial mothers
- talking about the success of the Safe Passage model school and
- raising funds for additional grades for the school.

Down East Magazine Best of 2015 Award

Ron Joyce, Chris Percival, Deb, Walters John Gundersdorf and Danielle Chrobak at the Best Of Down East Awards evening
We were thrilled to be the editor's choice for the Best Adventurer on a Mission, for the Down East Best of 2015 awards.  They said the Down East editors went through a rigorous selection process where Kayak for Safe Passage Kids was chosen as top in its category. We were in the overall Outdoor category, where other winners included a rock, a trail, a hill and a bog.  Glad to be with such an esteemed group!

The photo above is the Safe Passage folks who joined Chris and me at the celebration event in Portland.  Great opportunity to chat with the other Best of 2015 winners.  A bit disappointed that the rock, trail, hill and bog were no shows.
