I am a grandmother paddling alone over 2,500 miles from Maine to Guatemala. Along the way I will be:
- telling the story of the children who live in the Guatemala City garbage dump community
- honoring their entrepreneurial mothers
- talking about the success of the Safe Passage model school and
- raising funds for additional grades for the school.

Walking Day 27.5: A walk on the beach and a virtual visit to the dump

Breakers and swift current at the breachway
Decided yesterday that the safest option was to not try to paddle into the breachway into Quonochontaug Pond at Weekapaug.  Today I walked along the beach down to the breachway to see if I had made the correct decision.

Walking Day 27: Surf's up!

Surf at Point Judith - check out the wind driven spray!
Small Craft Advisory still in effect.  Hurricane Cristobal passed by off shore, but sent high seas along the southern New England coast.

Paddle Day 23: What a difference a day makes!

Terns at sea.
What looked so challenging yesterday in the higher winds, was a breeze today in the lighter tail wind, with only one spot of challenge.

Calm in the Wareham bay
I started paddling early today since the forecast was for high winds in the afternoon.  And it was almost glassy calm at first.

Biking Day 1: Cape Cod Canal

Watching a tanker in the Cape Cod Canal from my host home.
I really was only joking about this becoming a road trip...

Tough decision, but the safest option

Linda, Deb and Steve -the decision makers
With charts spread before us, and the marine forecast and tide charts in hand, Linda and Steve brought their sailing experience and local knowledge to bear as we explored the route from Plymouth to Sandwich.

Paddle Day 18: Sneaking between the whitecaps from the wind and the breaking surf from the swells

The helpful dock master at the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club and Bart, Mike and Janet.
The day started out with calm water and a light breeze, as I waved goodbye to my Scituate hosts: Janet, Bart and Mike.

Paddle Day 17: Happy on the Ocean

Happy Deb back on the ocean!
Today was much better!  While I was out paddling on the ocean I was thinking there was nowhere that I'd rather be just then.

Adventures of Patito Amistoso: Chapter Two

Dear Children at Safe Passage and around the world,

Remember the fairy nest that appeared for me when I was camping with Deb on Trott Island?  Well, the next morning it had magically grown.  See if you can find the new things.  There was a little house for my new neighbor.  And see the table?  There was a new chair, and now two dishes, so we can eat together.  There was a flower.  And my favorite part was the "Welcome" written out in seaweed.  I do feel very welcome here!  There was a little girl on the beach playing with the fairy house, and she was very nice!

My fairy nest grew!
